State Testing Information
Since the adoption of higher K-12 standards in English Language Arts and Math in 2010, student progress is measured through the current state test, known as Smarter Balanced. To allow students to fully demonstrate their skills and knowledge the test is not timed. Your child’s participation provides both you and teachers with additional information beyond classroom assessments of how your child is progressing in relation to these state standards. Student participation is also vital to ensuring schools and districts receive the resources they need to help all students succeed.
House Bill 2655 permits parents to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting an opt-out form to the school the student attends. Should you choose to opt-out of the statewide testing, please submit this form to the office or your child’s teacher by January 1, 2019. A digital version of the form is available on the Butler Creek website. Paper copies of the form are available upon request in the school office.
